Make a list of the things you want out of life. Don't think about it too much; just brainstorm as many examples as you can think of. Be honest and put down everything. Don't worry about whether or not it's feasible.
Consider each point on your list individually. Think about whether you really want it and what obstacles are stopping you from realizing your potential. For example, if your dream is to travel to Europe, you might face obstacles such as lack of time or money.
Come up with ways that you can actively overcome each of the obstacles that you face. Avoid inactive solutions. If you want to be proactive, you have to pursue your goals, not passively wait for them. If you want to go on a trip and need more money, start saving now, get a new job or sell some of your belongings.
Create a timeline. Write down specific dates for completing each of the entries on your list. Be firm but realistic. Do not give yourself fall-back dates, as this will only give you an excuse for not completing a given task. If the task is complicated, divide it up into sub-goals and give each one a date. For example, if your goal is to get a new job, set individual dates for education, job searching, resume building and interviews.
Cross off entries on your list after you have accomplished them. This will help you measure your progress and provide encouragement to keep going.
