How to Take Drafting Classes

Drafting classes advance your current career, help you find a new job or progress you towards an entirely new field such as architecture or engineering. Computer Aided Drafted (AutoCAD) is the most common tool used in drafting professions, though some schools and workplaces still use manual drawing.

Instructions

    • 1

Search for a private class at an architecture or engineering institute. The American Design Drafting Association (ADDA) website lists certified schools and programs (see Resources).

    • 2

For less expensive classes, check your local Community College catalog. See Resources for college locations.

    • 3

Search the class catalog for drafting classes appropriate to your field and experience level. Find drafting classes in architecture or engineering departments.

    • 4

Sign up for your desired class. Some colleges require a student ID number to enroll in classes. Check online or contact the college for information.

    • 5

Call the professor, department, college or institute to introduce yourself. Ask if you will need any software to complete the class.

    • 6

Visit the college bookstore or an online textbook store (see Resources) to purchase the appropriate book for your class. Check with the department if you're not sure.
