How to Obtain a Certified Copy of GED Scores

After you've taken your General Education Development test, better known as the GED, you may need to request copies of your scores. Colleges and employers sometimes will want proof of your scores when you are applying for admission or for a position. However, a photocopy of your GED scores won't suffice. Most schools and employers are looking to see or receive an official copy. Knowing how to request official copies of your scores can be very important in taking the next steps in your life.

Instructions

      Go to the American Council on Education's website. ACE runs the GED Testing Service and will have the information you need to get started.

      Under the Programs and Services Tabs, select the GED Testing Service option.

      Scroll down to the GED Test Takers section and open the Request Transcript link.

      Select the option that best fits where you took your GED test.

      If you selected the Local Testing Center in the United States or Canada option, use the GED Test Center Locator to find the phone number and address of your testing center.

      Call or write to your testing center, requesting an official copy of your transcript be sent to the address you provide.

      If you selected the Military, Overseas or Correctional Facility Testing Programs option, print out the online Transcript Request Form.

      Mail the form to GED Testing Service, One Dupont Circle, Suite 250, Washington, DC 20036-1193.

      If you selected All Other Locations, follow the directions provided by ACE for your specific situation. Most of these options tell you to contact the GED Administrator of the state in which you took the test.
