Indonesian Language Schools

Indonesian, also known as Bahasa Indonesia, is the official and majority language of Indonesia, the fourth largest country in the world and the world's largest Muslim country. A Malay language that is very close to Malaysian, Indonesian was made the official language after independence and has since become the lingua franca for Indonesians who speak hundreds of local dialects. If you are interested in studying Indonesian, a number of reputable schools can be chosen from inside and outside Indonesia.

    • Listen and Learn has school branches across the United States and offers beginner, intermediate and advanced Indonesian classes as well as one-on-one tutoring. All courses are taught by native Indonesian speakers with experience tutoring a variety of students. Classes are usually about two hours, but they can be adjusted to match your schedule. As of 2011, classes in New York, Los Angeles and Manhattan cost $52 per hour. Classes in other cities are $44 as of 2011.

    Languaworld

    • Languaworld offers beginner, intermediate and advanced level Indonesian classes as well as one-on-one tutoring in New York City. All teachers are native Indonesian-speakers with years of teaching experience. Courses can also be customized to suit your area of interest in specialized Indonesian, such as Indonesian for business. Languaworld also offers an intensive immersion program with up to four or five units a day. As of 2011, courses are $50 per class.

    Language Studies Indonesia

    • One of the largest Indonesian language training centers in Jakarta, Language Studies Indonesia offer private tutorials for one to four students. All teachers are University-accredited Indonesian teachers. Language Studies Indonesia offers tutorial sessions at a site of your choosing. The courses are for beginner to advanced-level students of Indonesian. Each course level has 13 tutorial sessions. Each session lasts for 2 hours. As of 2011, the cost per session is $30, and $390 for a total course of 13 sessions.

    Puri Bahasa Indonesia

    • Puri Bahasa Indonesia is located in Yogyarta Indonesia and offers courses for foreigners who would like to study Indonesian. Puri Bahasa focuses on developing oral comprehension and fluency in Indonesian through an active speaking environment. Courses range from beginner to advanced. Each course takes 50 hours of class time to complete. As of 2011, classes were $9 per hour for one-on-one sessions, and $14 for two students, $16 for three students, and $18 for four students.
