American Sign Language Schools

American Sign Language, which is commonly abbreviated as "ASL," is a fully realized language that is often used by deaf individuals. Instead of words and sounds, American Sign Language uses hand motions, bodily postures and facial expressions to convey language and meaning. Several schools offer classes in American Sign Language.

ASL University has existed since 1997, and started as a way to help families of children in rural regions who were far from any sign language instruction. The open enrollment courses take between 45 and 60 hours to finish, and students are permitted to work at their preferred paces. Apart from standard language classes, the school also offers courses in subjects such as fingerspelling and deaf culture.
