Scaffolding Training in the Northeast

In the Northeast -- the New England States and the Middle Atlantic States -- Occupational Safety and Health Administration-compliant scaffolding training is offered by trade unions and others for the purpose of minimizing hazards, preventing injury and saving lives.
  1. New England

    • Unions and building contractors may share training centers.

Unions and building contractors throughout the New England states, with the exception of Connecticut, share the New England Carpenters Training Center, which is headquartered in Millbury, Massachusetts. Courses include technical as well as heath and safety training. In March and April of 2011, for example, the 32-hour Scaffolding Erector Certification course was scheduled to be taught.

    Connecticut

    • Carpenter apprenticeships include scaffolding erector training.

Connecticut Carpenters Apprenticeship & Training, located in Yalesville, Connecticut, offers scaffolding erector training and certification. In recognition of the changing workforce, it reaches out to women and minorities through Job Corps, the Permanent Commission on Status of Women and others.

    New York and Beyond

    • Able Safety Consulting, headquartered in New York, provides training all over the United States as well as online. Its OSHA-mandated course, Suspended Scaffold Training, provides instruction on minimizing hazards by correctly constructing, maintaining and using scaffolding that is suspended by cables or ropes.

    Manuals

    • Scaffolding safety manuals exist in downloadable form.

Seacoast Scaffold & Equipment Corporation, with locations in New Hampshire and Maine, provide downloadable manuals, including "OSHA Scaffold Guide" and "OSHA Supported Scaffold Inspection Tips."
