The Best IT Training Institutes

When you decide to pursue an information technology career, choosing where to train is always a challenge, and your decision may affect your future job opportunities. So many IT training institutes exist today, that you can likely find one not far from home, and many of them will be familiar based on their nationally known names.
  1. DeVry University

    • This university is one of the most respected IT training institutes in the U.S. DeVry has more than 80 locations nationwide and offers bachelor's and master’s degrees in nearly every IT field. Course options include IT engineering technology, CIS, network & communications management and electronic systems technology. One of the reasons DeVry is so popular is because it's accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association. This organization accredits other well-known IT institutes in America and employers usually hire those who graduate from these accredited schools. As with most IT institutes, you can take courses online, on campus or a combination of both.

    ITT Technical Institute

    • ITT Tech is equal with DeVry as a leading American IT institute. It outdoes DeVry in locations, offering more than 100 schools nationwide and providing the same curriculum, but some ITT locations don’t offer bachelor’s degree programs and ITT doesn’t offer master’s degrees. It does offer one of the most comprehensive lists of IT programs you’ll find anywhere, including computer drafting and design, web development, software programming and information systems security. ITT invites prospective students to arrange to tour their local school and discuss their career goals.

    University of Phoenix

    • Most people have heard of University of Phoenix, the university with arguably the most ubiquitous ad campaign. This school offers plenty of educational options, including good IT programs. The selling point is that the school allows you to get degrees in a shorter amount of time than you would in a traditional university. While this may be a controversial way to get educated, it doesn’t hurt your employment chances. The school also lets you earn credits that can be used in place of work experience. Some of the IT programs offered are information systems and information management. As with all the other universities listed, online training programs are available.

    Tech Skills

    • When you take a certification program, you get a specific education in a particular IT skill that can be applied alone or as an add-on to an existing career. One of the best certification schools in America is Tech Skills, which has about 30 campus locations around the U.S. Some of the IT certification courses it offers are Cisco-certified network programs and Microsoft programs including certified desktop technicians, database administrators and systems engineers.
