Law Schools in the Northeast

Finding law schools in the Northeast United States is not difficult. Deciding which school to attend will be affected by many factors---including location, faculty, research considerations and job placement. While the Northeast is known for its competitive and Ivy League programs, there are many law school options available regardless of your previous experience, LSAT score or GPA.
  1. Harvard University

    • The best law schools in the Northeast, as rated by US News & World Report and other publications, are typically part of well-established Ivy League universities such as Yale, Harvard and Columbia University. Harvard, in particular, offers a top tier, world-renowned program. This and other Ivy League law schools are extremely competitive to get into, and they refuse most applicants. Admission into Harvard Law School, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, can be an entryway to a fruitful and exciting career. Graduates from Harvard Law and other well-regarded Ivy League law schools have gone on to be leaders in academia, private practice, government and non-profit organizations. Some have become U.S. presidents. Harvard Law School provides students with some of the most reputable clinical law programs, such as the Harvard Negotiation and Mediation Clinical Program, and the WilmerHale Legal Services Center, Harvard's oldest and largest clinical teaching facility.

    Boston College Law School

    • Aiming for an Ivy League law school can be a challenging endeavor. These law schools will often turn away applicants who are extremely qualified. It is advisable that law school applicants consider applying to a couple of law programs outside of the top 15. Consider Boston College Law School, a reputable institution that is not as stringent in admissions as its Ivy League competitors. Boston College Law School has produced some of the nation's most distinguished legal professionals, as well as a sizable number of graduates who have received post-graduate fellowships in the field of public interest. Boston College provides students with a strong legal foundation, with a wide array of specialty areas to choose from, such as intellectual property law and criminal defense. It has been ranked by the Princeton Review in the number 7 slot for "Best Career Prospects" because of its impeccable placement rate of graduates in some of America's top law firms.

    Villanova University School of Law

    • When you're applying to law programs, consider that this is one of the most competitive times for incoming graduate admissions committees. All prospective applicants should consider what are known as "safety schools" if they are eager to get into a law program for sure the following year. Villanova University's law curriculum is a good program to consider as a "safety school," as they are not as stringent in admissions as some of the Northeast's top-tier or Ivy League schools. Located just outside of Philadelphia, the Villanova University School of Law provides students with a sturdy legal education and the opportunity to combine such a background with specialty programs, such as joint law and psychology programs or JD/MBA programs. Villanova also features some of the best specialty clinical programs, including Civil Justice, Refugee and Asylum Services and Federal Tax Programs.
