The Berkeley School of Law is located in Boalt Hall, at the University of California Berkeley. The program offers a number of degree options, including a juris doctor (JD) program in concurrence with Harvard Law. Students can choose specialties in economics, comparative law, environmental law, international law, technology and social justice. Berkeley School of Law was the first to offer master's and Ph.D. programs specializing in jurisprudence and social policy.

The UCLA School of Law, in Los Angeles, was founded in 1949. UCLA Law students specialize in business law, critical race studies, entertainment and media philosophy, or public interest. It also offers programs in environmental law, international law and law regarding native nations, as well as collaborative opportunities with other academic programs at UCLA.

The University of California Irvine School of Law is the newest of the UC law schools, starting its first class in August 2009. The school maintained high standards for its first class, with an average GPA of 3.61. UCI School of Law recruited this class, which will graduate in 2012, with a full ride and a three-to-one professor to student ratio.

The Hastings College of Law was the first law school founded by the University of California system, established in 1878 by Serranus Clinton Hastings, California’s first chief justice. Located in San Francisco, Hastings gives students an opportunity to specialize in taxation, litigation, international, comparative law and public interest law. Graduates of Hastings make up 75 percent of the sitting judges in California.
