Courses in ESL, or English as a Second Language, entitles a student to short-term intensive language study through classroom sessions as well as an experience of interactions with native English speakers. Michigan has several colleges offering the ESL course that a student can pursue as a parallel course (meaning the student can take the ESL program while being enrolled in another degree program simultaneously).

    • Andrews University located in Berrien Springs, Michigan, offers the English as a second language program that enhances the skills of a student in communicating in English language. The University accommodates short-term yet intensive study of the language followed by regular cultural as well as professional interactions of non-native and native speakers. It offers reading, grammar, composition, oral and aural practice. The students have a choice to transfer into a major of their choice upon the completion of the ESL course.

    Language Center International

    • Language Center International in Southfield, Michigan, is a professional and accredited school that offers translations, interpretations and one-on-one ESL tutoring and foreign-language tutoring to provide the students with expert learning of the English language. The school offers 36 hours of ESL classes per week, which the student can flexibly adjust to and make up by the end of the week. The courses are usually six to seven weeks long and students are exposed to English grammar, writing, speaking, listening, reading and pronunciation.
