Although the Tennessee Department of Education highlights that GED program participants must be at least 18 years old, if certain conditions are met, 17-year-old students can also pursue a GED. They must not be presently enrolled in high school and provide a signed age-waiver statement from the local school superintendent.
Register for GED test preparation classes. If you prefer a structured learning environment with personalized instruction and GED exam reviews, take GED classes at either Covington or Munford Adult Learning Centers. Flexible meeting times are offered at both locations, so choose a day and time that meets your scheduling needs. If you select the Covington center, you must make an appointment before visiting the facility. In order to meet eligibility requirements for the GED test registration, all students must show proof of completing a GED practice exam administered at the adult learning centers .
Purchase or borrow GED test preparation materials from a local bookstore or library. Many review booklets include practice exams.
Contact the Covington Adult Learning Center, 901-475-2526, to inquire about the GED exam registration process. All examinees must complete a registration application and take required documentation, including a driver's license or state-issued identification, GED practice test verification and GED eligibility enrollment verification (if you are 17 years old). Applicants who are 17 years old must be enrolled in a state-approved GED program before registering for the test. As of April 2011, you must also pay a cash-only $55 test registration fee. No applicants will be allowed to register without the required documents and fee.
Arrive at the Convington Adult Learning Center promptly on testing day with your government-issued ID or driver's license in hand. Take and successfully pass the exam to receive your GED.
