New Mexico Flight Schools

Students who want to earn a pilot's license have many opportunities in the state of New Mexico. Flying in New Mexico offers many opportunities because of the variation in altitudes and landscape within the state. Whether seeking a private pilot's, recreational pilot's, sport pilot's or mountain pilot's license, there are flight schools to meet the individual needs of each and every student.
  1. Bode Aviation, Inc.

    • Located in Albuquerque, Bode Aviation is focused on safety and security while providing full-service pilot training. Bode Aviation has two locations at Albuquerque International Airport and Double Eagle II Airport. Students who wish to learn to fly have several financial aid opportunities available including Sallie Mae, the GI bill and veteran's benefits. Additionally, Bode Aviation's financial aid department has information on educational loans and scholarships. Bode offers flight training for private pilot licenses, instrument rating and advanced certificates, ground schools and specialty courses in aerobatics and spin training.

    Chamberlain Aviation

    • Chamberlain Aviation is located in Rodeo, New Mexico. Because of this school's remote location, students get one-on-one flight training from this Part 61 Flight School. Part 61 means that under federal aviation regulations, flight instruction is conducted in a flexibly scheduled environment, versus a Part 141 school which provide a structured training environment. The training received is the same and both types of schools prepare students for the same FAA examinations. With little traffic in the area, students are able to concentrate completely on learning to fly from expert instructors. Students have the option to use the school's Cessna 152 training airplane or to learn to fly in their own airplane. Chamberlain offers a Young Pilot's program for students under the age of 18 who have an interest in becoming a pilot.

    Del Sol Aviation

    • Located in Albuquerque, Del Sol Aviation concentrates on many aspects of flight training including training students as private pilots, commercial pilots and flight instructors. The school provides two separate ground school courses including an accelerated design to help students sit for the FAA written exam and a formal ground school to prepare students with all of the knowledge need to fly. Students in the flight school have the option of working at their own pace and around their own busy schedules or to work at an accelerated pace, depending on their individual needs.

    Mauldin Aviation

    • Mauldin Aviation is located in Los Lunas, New Mexico. The company was started in 2005 by owner Bonnie Mauldin to specialize in sport pilot flight training. To earn a sport pilot license, students mus be at least 17 years of age and have a U.S. driver's license. No medical exam is required as long as the person has not previously been denied a pilot's license for medical reasons. Sport pilots are restricted to one passenger, operate only in Class G and E airspace and cannot fly higher than 10,000 feet above sea level.

    SkyMachines

    • SkyMachines is located in Sante Fe, New Mexico, which is 6,348 feet above sea level. The school combines mountain flying instruction with private pilot and instrument pilot instruction. Students have opportunities to receive training as recreational, sport or private pilots. For those with pilot certificates, SkyMachines offers training courses in mountain flying through a 1-day introduction to mountain flying, a 3-day complete visual flight rules (VFR) mountain flying class, an extreme flying 3-day instrument flight rules (IFR) mountain flying course, and a 10-day extreme instrument rating certification course.
