Colleges in South Carolina With Baseball Teams

Baseball is big in the South and South Carolina has its share of baseball teams. Several colleges in South Carolina have baseball programs. Some programs are in top-tier conferences and compete on a national level, while other programs are much smaller and receive little national attention.
  1. The University of South Carolina

    • The University of South Carolina is in Columbia, the state's capital. USC has more than 350 degree programs and is home to more than 20,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The baseball team is part of the Southeastern Conference and has made the College World Series eight times. The Gamecocks play at Carolina Stadium, which seats more than 8,000 fans.

    Winthrop University

    • Located in Rock Hill, Winthrop University is home to the Eagles baseball team. Winthrop University was founded in 1886 and more than 6,000 students are enrolled at the college. The Eagles have made several NCAA Regionals and have a 77 percent winning percentage at home. The Eagles are part of the Big South conference and play at the Winthrop Ballpark.

    Clemson University

    • Clemson University is in Clemson and enrolls more than 17,000 students annually. Clemson offers more than 170 undergraduate and graduate programs. The Clemson baseball team plays at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The Tigers are part of the Atlantic Coast Conference and have made the NCAA Tournament more than 20 times.

    College of Charleston

    • The College of Charleston is home to about 11,000 students. The Cougars baseball team is part of the Southern Conference and the team plays at Patriots Point. Postseason play for the Cougars has included playing in three NCAA Regionals and making a Super Regional once.

    Limestone College

    • The Limestone Saints are a Division II school that plays in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference. The Saints have won their conference once. Limestone is a private college and is in Gaffney. Limestone was founded in 1845 and enrolls about 800 students.

    Coastal Carolina University

    • Coastal Carolina University is in Conway and enrolls more than 8,000 students. Coastal Carolina offers 42 degree programs and a variety of athletic programs. Coastal Carolina's baseball team is called the Chanticleers and plays in the Big South. The Chanticleers play at Charles Watson Stadium and have made an NCAA Regional nine times and a Super Regional once.
