Colleges With Swim Teams in North Carolina

The state of North Carolina is known for its collegiate athletic teams. In particular, many people in North Carolina are avid college basketball fans, but there are many other college sports teams in the Tarheel State, including swim teams. Many colleges in North Carolina have competitive swim teams.
  1. Davidson College

    • Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina has swimming and diving teams. The small private liberal arts school has approximately 1,800 students according to its website, as of January 2011. The home of the Wildcats has both an all-male swimming and diving team and an all-female team. Both teams train and compete in the Charles A. Cannon Pool on Davidson's campus. The swimming pool is equipped with eight lanes and there's also a diving well on the premises. The swimming Wildcats are a member of the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association.

    University of North Carolina

    • The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has both a men's and a womens's swimming and diving team. Founded in 1789, UNC-Chapel Hill is a public university. According to its website, more than 29,300 students were enrolled at the school as of fall 2010. The swimming Tarheels practice and compete in the Maurice J. Koury Natatorium on the UNC campus.

    Duke University

    • Situated in Durham, North Carolina, Duke University has swimming and diving teams for both male and female student athletes. The Blue Devils swimming and diving teams compete at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level. Duke is a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The men's swimming and diving athletic program began in 1927; the women's program didn't come into existence until 1971.

    Warren Wilson College

    • Warren Wilson College has both a women's and men's swim team. Situated in the mountains of western North Carolina in Swannanoa, the college is a private liberal arts school. According to its website, approximately 850 students were enrolled in the school as of January 2011. The Warren Wilson Owls train in the DeVries Aquatic Center in Swannanoa.

    Guilford College

    • Situated in Greensboro, North Carolina, Guilford College has female and male swim teams that compete in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference at the NCAA Division III level. According to its website, approximately 2,800 students were enrolled in the fall of 2010. Guilford College is the home of the Quakers, which is a nod to its founding in 1937 by The Religious Society of Friends.
