Colleges in Washington State With a Dance Team

Colleges and universities in Washington state have more to offer young female athletes than cheerleading, volleyball and basketball. Dance teams are also available for participation. You should have a strong cheerleading or dance background in order to make one of the teams. The teams provide entertainment for the crowds at basketball games and other collegiate events.
  1. Washington State University

    • Washington State University in Pullman has the Crimson Girls Dance Team, a nationally recognized dance team. The dance team has received second place at the USA Nationals dance competition three times. Formed in 2003, the team includes 16 dancers and two alternates. Tryouts for the dance team are held every year in April. Members are expected to maintain good health and weight and demonstrate good behavior.

    Seattle University

    • Seattle University has the Redhawk Dance Squad. The team includes 13 dancers. Tryouts are held every April with a preseason boot camp held in September. The team performs at basketball games and other collegiate events. Both women and men can be members of the squad. Men benefit a dance team by adding extra muscle during stunts.

    Gonzaga University

    • Gonzaga University in Spokane has two teams---the Dance Team and the Bomb Squad, which is a hip-hop dance team. The Dance Team has 16 members and performs at basketball games, hosts dance clinics and spirit nights and performs community services. The Bomb Squad has 18 dancers and primarily performs at basketball games.

    Walla Walla Community College

    • The Warrior Dance Team at Walla Walla Community College is comparable in size to the other dance teams in Washington, despite being a community college. The squad placed second at the National Collegiate Dance Team Championships in 2004. The team performs at all volleyball and basketball games that take place on the Walla Walla campus.
