How to Cite a Blog in MLA Format

Blogs are, at their basic form, a sort of online journal, but blogs can be used to convey a variety of information. Using a blog as a reference in a research paper can often provide a personalized aspect to the research, as you are referencing someone's opinion. Blog postings are cited in MLA format according to the same method as any other Web entry. MLA (Modern Language Association) format uses an author-page number citation style. In the case of a blog entry, page numbers are not available so you will focus on the author and titles of the blog.

Instructions

    • 1

Have the right information. You need to include the author's screen name if available and the author's actual name. It is also important with a blog citation to note the date of publication and the date of access. In MLA format, you do not have to note the URL of the blog.

    • 2

Cite the blog as an in-text citation with the author of the blog in parentheses or in the text of the paper. For example: (Hamilton).

    • 3

Cite the blog with the author's name, post title, website title, the publisher of the blog site, publication date, the medium and the date you accessed the site. For example: HeroineTV [Lucia]. "Mad Men Review." Heroine TV. Blogspot, 13 May 2008. Web. 28 July 2011.
