Begin the citation with the name of the artist followed by a period. Give the last name then the first name if the artist is a single person, or give the band name. For example, "Cash, Johnny" or "The Eagles" followed by a period.
Use the composer's name for classical music, but use the performer's name for an album with pieces by multiple composers; for example, "Chopin, Frederic." or "New York Symphony Orchestra."
Use "Various" followed by a period for albums containing works by various artists or performers.
List the title of the album in italics. Use title case -- capitalize the first word of the title and all other words except articles and prepositions under four letters long. For example, "The Chopin Album."
Give the name of the performer or composer, whichever is not listed at the beginning of the citation, for a classical album. Use the abbreviation "Perf." for performer and "Comp." for composer. Also list the conductor's name if the music was performed by an orchestra. For example, "Comp. Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus." or "Perf. Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Cond. Jun Markl."
List the recording date if it is known; give the month, day and then year. For example, "Rec. 06 11 1999."
Give the manufacturer's name and the publication date. For example, "Ondine, 2002."
End with the medium of the album. For example, "CD", "MP3", "LP" or "Audiocassette" followed by a period.
