Duct Design Training

Duct systems are used in residential, commercial and industrial applications for heating and cooling systems throughout a building. Individuals interested in designing duct systems can pursue a postsecondary program to become familiar with the theory and techniques used to develop duct systems.
  1. Program

    • Dust design is a component of sheet metal work. A variety of educational facilities, such as St. Paul College and Bates Technical College, offer sheet metal diploma programs and associate of technology degrees in sheet metal technology.

    Curriculum

    • In sheet metal programs, topics include safety precautions, hand tools and power tools used for working with sheet metal. Students learn to read blueprints, weld sheet metal and work with sheet metal fittings. Courses are then introduced that explain the layout and design of HVAC duct systems for residential and commercial application.

    Apprenticeship

    • Many sheet metal programs are considered pre-apprenticeship programs. Interested students who successfully complete the program can apply directly to an apprenticeship program offered by a local union.
