Composite Design Training

Composite materials, including carbon fiber reinforced plastics, are used in a number of applications and industries including the aerospace industry.
  1. Engineers

    • Composite design courses are available for engineers with experience in civil, mechanical, structural and aeronautical qualifications and experience. For courses that do not specialize an industrial background, composite and laminate design experience is required.

    Aeronautical

    • Composite design and analysis training can be sponsored through a specific organization for a specific type of industry. For example, to gain entry to the University of Washington certificate program in composite design, you must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen and an employee of Boeing or a partner company.

    Course

    • Participants in composite design training must possess a Bachelor of Science in engineering. Subjects covered during the training include theoretical and practical courses including case studies and composite analysis and design.

    Costs

    • Courses in composite design can be taken in short five-day courses, such as those offered by Abaris Training in Reno, costing $1,895 in January 2011, to the variety of design courses offered by the University of Washington. The courses are taught at the Boeing facility and cost between $1,980 and $2,640 for a course lasting approximately two months. Graduate studies are available throughout the world, including the U.K.'s University of Bolton, which offers a one-year course.
