Pavement design training should be attended by engineers, supervisors, construction personnel with governmental agencies and private sector workers that consistently work with pavement and its construction and performance.
Training in pavement design typically covers material such as structural response calculations, pavement performance predictions and mechanistic-empirical pavement design, according to the National Highway Institute. Other topics include cost analysis of pavement design and pavement responses. Typically, design is covered in a training session that also covers pavement construction and rehabilitation.
Pavement design courses are offered both as in-person training classes and Web-based tutorials. In-person classes span several days and cost upwards of $600 per participant as of November 2010. Web-based classes can be taken at the student's own pace and cost from $200 to $300 as of November 2010.
