Often called the "hub city" of Logan County, Sterling is located mere minutes from Rockland. Sterling is home to Northeastern Junior College, a two-year institute with more than 80 academic programs. Students can choose from a wide variety of studies, including agriculture, business, health and nursing. Northeastern Junior College also offers training in new technologies, such as wind energy and diesel fuels.
Students willing to make a trip to Aurora will find a few more vocational training options. About 120 miles west of Rockland, Aurora is home to three vocational schools. The Artistic Beauty College caters to students seeking a career in the cosmetology field. Pickens Technical College offers courses in engineering, construction, automotive, landscaping and more. Platt College provides training to students in one of two areas -- nursing and design.
Understandably, Denver, Colorado's largest city, provides perhaps the best vocational options for interested students. About 125 miles west of Rockland (just west of Aurora), Denver is a prime location for Rockland residents who are willing to travel for schooling. More than two dozen vocation schools are located in Denver. Students can study art at The Art Institute of Colorado, trucking at The United States Truck Driving School, or a number of different programs at the Denver Career College.
Those living in Rockland who are unable to commute to surrounding schools may choose to complete studies online. A number of vocational schools offer online courses, and some studies can be fully completed online. DeVry University provides online course options in many fields, in addition to its 80 campuses. Westwood College has some programs that can be completed in less than two years through online courses. The University of Phoenix is another vocational school with extensive online options.
