Worcester Polytechnic Institute offers more than 50 undergraduate and graduate programs in areas such as science, technology, social sciences, the humanities and the arts. Its campus sits on 80 acres and is secluded on a hilltop. The many activities the school offers are clubs, organizations and sports as well as annual events like homecoming and the winter ball. The basic requirements for admission are high school transcripts; a science or math teacher's recommendation as well as a guidance counselor's; a personal essay; and SAT scores.
The Bancroft School of Massage Therapy offers training in massage therapy from Western and Eastern approaches. It teaches the Bancroft method and anatomy with hands-on experience in the student clinic and internships at off-campus sites. The school also offers career counseling and continuing education for graduates. The diploma program is licensed and exceeds the educational requirements for the National Certification Exam for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. You can take either full-time day sessions or evening sessions. You must have a high school diploma or GED and be 18 years old. To apply you need to fill out the application, set up a personal interview with one of the directors, give a professional massage and include a doctor's note showing proof of a physical exam.
Located 50 miles from Worcester, the ITT Technical Institute offers programs and degrees in information technology, electronics technology, drafting and design. Special activities include summer and fall barbecues, career fairs and the Alpha Beta Kappa Honor Society. To apply you must have a high school diploma or GED, take the ACT test if you haven't in the past five years, meet with a representative and take a tour of the school.
The Porter and Chester Institute, located 50 miles from Worcester, provides career training in health care, automotive, trade and computers. Some programs can be complete in less than nine months, and others in 12. It has been in operation since 1946 and has locations throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts. The school also offers job placement assistance and is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges and Commission on Dental Accreditation. Classes start in January, April, July and October.
