The College of Alameda (alameda.peralta.edu) automotive technology (ATECH) program is certified by ASE. Students can earn an Associate in Science degree by completing the general education requirements and the major course requirements. Major course requirements are engine performance, chassis and drivetrain, chassis specialist, engine repair specialist, automotive electronics specialist and drivetrain specialist. The ATECH program has been recognized twice as the best auto mechanics training program in California by the Industry Planning Council of the Motor Vehicles Manufacturers Association. ATECH participates in the Toyota Associates Program, which provides graduates an opportunity to be hired by Toyota dealerships.
The Alfred State College (alfredstate.edu) automotive service technician program is certified by ASE. Students can earn an Associate in Occupational Studies degree by completing 1,800 hours of training in automotive repair for all types of automobiles. The program has received an award of excellence from the Industry Planning Council. Qualified seniors are offered the opportunity to receive intensive training through the Mercedes-Benz North America ELITE program. There is no charge if the student completes the training and works for a Mercedes-Benz dealer for six months.
The Highland Community College (hccautomotive.com) automotive education program is certified by ASE. Students can earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in auto body repair, an Associate of Applied Science in automotive technology or a certificate in basic automotive technology. Through classroom instruction and hand-on learning, auto body repair students master the skills needed to repair and refinish damaged automobiles. Automotive technology students gain a basic understanding of automobiles and become eligible for employment in a number of areas, including computerized engine controls, transmissions and control system diagnostics.
Prince George's Community College (pgcc.edu) Transportation and Distribution Institute automotive technology program offers a continuing education certificate for completion of each of its courses. Courses offered are basic theory, engine performance, brake systems, electrical systems, auto body collision and repair, and heating and air conditioning. The courses are for beginning and advanced students and can be completed in any order. The focus is on ASE certification content areas.
