ROTC Colleges in California

The U.S. military partners with college and universities in offering the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) as an undergraduate program for students who wish to serve their country in the armed forces upon graduation. Several California schools offer ROTC programs with a variety of career concentrations, including health professions, aviation and naval warfare.
  1. UCLA

    • The University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) offers a two-year and four-year ROTC program in aerospace studies. The four-year program includes general military and aerospace courses. The two-year program, known as the Professional Officer Course, requires three hours of academic study per week as well as lab work and other training. Upon completion of the programs, students will become members of the U.S. Air Force.

    University of California-Berkeley

    • University of California-Berkeley offers an ROTC program for naval officers that was one of the six original ROTC programs created in the United States. Courses include introduction to naval science, seapower, leadership and management systems, naval ship systems, navigation and naval operation, leadership and ethics, littoral warfare, and evolution of warfare.

    University of California-Santa Barbara

    • The University of California-Santa Barbara offers an Air Force ROTC program that provides students with two-, three-, or four-year scholarships to help pay tuition, books and administrative fees. Air Force ROTC students are required to take one-credit courses for their first and second years of study and three-credit courses for their third and fourth years. A weekly two-hour leadership program is required throughout a student's four years of study.

    University of Southern California (USC)

    • The University of Southern California (USC) offers a Naval ROTC program that works in conjunction with UCLA's program, providing training in general military topics, drill, physical fitness, marksmanship and field training. Graduates can choose a career in naval aviation, surface warfare, the Marine Corps, submarine warfare, medical and health professions, and special warfare/special operations. Upon graduation, officers will have a service requirement from four to eight years depending on the career they choose.
