San Diego City College offers a Cosmetology program that prepares students for entry level careers in cosmetology. Students who enroll in the program must be at least 16 years of age and purchase necessary textbooks, uniforms, practical kits, tools and small equipment. Curriculum for the program includes laboratory instructions in cosmetology services and training in sales, community and client relations, salon management and care of skin, hair and nails. Students must maintain grades of a "C" or better to advance in all of the cosmetology program courses.

The Paul Mitchell cosmetology school was created to continue the teachings of well-known professional hair stylist, Paul Mitchell. Students enrolled in the school's cosmetology program will learn about hair design, skin care, makeup, aromatherapy, nail artistry, sales and marketing. The school teaches students through a three-phase cosmetology program called CORE, ADAPTIVE and CREATIVE. In the CORE course, students are introduced to the basics of cosmetology. In the ADAPTIVE courses, students build on their CORE course skills and learn time management, retailing and communication. In the final CREATIVE phase, students learn advanced techniques in hairdressing and chemical work.

The cosmetology program at Tramy Beauty School provides students with basic training needed to pass the State Program of Barbering and Cosmetology examination. Curriculum for the program consists of 1,600 hours of technical instruction and practical application of learned skills. The cosmetology program covers training in analyzing the scalp, hair coloring, face, acrylic nails, manicure, pedicure and nail art. Students enrolled in the program must maintain a "C" or better in each of their courses. Upon completion of the program, the student will receive a diploma and may sit for their state licensing exam.
