Southern California State Colleges

Southern California has several colleges and universities. Among the options are traditional four-year universities and community colleges which offer two-year degrees.
  1. University of California Schools

    • The University of California Schools, which is often called the UC system, has five southern California campuses: the University of California at Irvine, Los Angeles, Riverside, Santa Barbara and San Diego. The UC system schools offer several academic course options, such as humanities, education, law, medicine and health, business and international relations.

    California State University

    • The California State University, otherwise known as Cal State, system has several southern California state colleges. Among these are Long Beach, Los Angeles, Pomona, Northridge, Bakersfield, Fullerton, Dominguez, San Bernardino San Diego and San Marcus. The system has a wide range of degree options, some of the primary ones in media, culture and design.

    Community Colleges

    • There are several community colleges in southern California, including Riverside Community College, Cerritos Community College or Cypress College. These colleges offer programs for transferring to four-year college in addition to two-year degrees.

    Considerations

    • Potential students should look into the culture of the school and the programs offered at each school before applying for admission. The state colleges are often affordable compared to private schools throughout the state.
