Automotive colleges specialize in technical training for a variety of trades. These schools and programs are designed to give students a practical knowledge of the automotive and its inner-workings. Graduates typically have enough training to get jobs in independent garages or dealerships. Texas has a variety of automotive technical schools across the state.
  1. Lincoln College of Technology

    • Lincoln College of Technology is located in Grand Prairie, between Dallas and Fort Worth. The school features multiple automotive diplomas, including Automative Technology, Collision Repair and Diesel Technology, and instruction from Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified teachers. It owns several race cars, which students are able to work on and race on Race Nights. The school is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC).

    South Texas Vocational Technical Institute

    • The South Texas Vocational Technical Institute offers automotive career training at two campuses in Texas: San Antonio and Corpus Christi. Both schools feature a technical program in Automotive Service Technician training that features instruction in conventional and computerized electrical systems, fuel and ignition systems, brake systems, computer diagnostic systems, and steering and suspension systems. According to its website, South Texas Vocational Technical Institute has been training students in a variety of fields for more than 30 years and it's accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Council on Occupational Education (COE).

    Capitol City Trade and Technical School

    • Located in Austin, Capitol City Trade and Technical School offers an automotive repair technician program that features instruction in brake systems, electrical systems, engine performance, suspension, steering, and heating and air-conditioning systems. The program has been designed so graduates can acquire entry-level employment as an automotive mechanic at independent automotive garages or dealerships. The school is accredited by the COE.

    Universal Technical Institute

    • The Universal Technical Institute has two campuses in Texas: Dallas and Houston. The Dallas campus features core programs in two areas: automotive technology, and diesel and industrial technology, while the Houston campus also has a collision repair and refinish technology training program. The Dallas campus has an elective in EPA certification for refrigerant handling. The Houston campus features electives in Cummins Diesel training, Ford accelerated credential training, Nissan advanced technology training and EPA certification for refrigerant handling. Both UTI Texas campuses are accredited by the ACCSC.
