U.S. Technical Colleges

If you are looking for a technical college to continue your education, then start by looking into the cream of the crop in the United States. A ranking of the top technology colleges in the world by "Times Higher Education World University Rankings" found the entire top five to be American technical colleges.
  1. California Institute of Technology

    • Not many colleges can say one of their alumni has walked on the moon, but the California Institute of Technology can say just that with Harrison Schmidt. With 2,130 students taught by a teaching staff of 299, this institute was ranked as the No. 1 technology university by the "Times Higher Education World University Rankings." The institute has 621 postdoctoral scholars and 35 senior postdoctoral scholars. The college holds NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The "Times Higher Education World University Rankings" named this college first in the list of top technology colleges in the world.

    Massachusetts Institute of Technology

    • This college is divided into five schools: School of Science, Sloan School of Management, School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, School of Engineering and School of Architecture and Planning. The students studying at the schools add up to 1,704. The teaching staff includes 643 professors, 131 instructors and 537 senior lectures, lecturers and professors emeriti. Since it was founded in 1861, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has taught 73 Nobel Prize winners; eight of these are now part of the faculty. This college came second in the rankings by "Times Higher Education World University Rankings."

    Stanford University

    • Stanford was ranked third on the same list. The college's students boast 26 Nobel prizes since the college was founded by Leland Stanford in 1891. Stanford's current scholars include 16 Nobel laureates. The faculty is 1,903 strong and teaches 10,600 students. Becoming one of these students is especially difficult, as only 7.1 percent of applicants go on to be educated at Stanford University. Google was founded by the Stanford alumni.

    Princeton University

    • There are three schools inside Princeton University: School of Architecture, School of Engineering and Applied Science, and Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. Currently, the faculty stands at 1,132 and there are 7,494 students. This Ivy League institution was founded in 1746. Princeton was named fourth on the list by "Times Higher Education World University Rankings."

    University of California Berkeley

    • Fifth on the world university rankings list was University of California Berkeley. Within the campus of this college, 35,838 students are taught, of which there are 25,540 undergraduates and 10,298 students undergoing graduate degrees. There are 1,582 full-time members of the faculty and 500 part-timers. The ratio of students to faculty is 15.1 to 1. The university -- founded in 1868 -- can boast 21 faculty members who have won Nobel prizes.
