Railway Engineering Colleges

Railway engineering involves a broad spectrum of duties pertaining to railway systems. Railway engineering can include the design and construction of railways or the operation of railway equipment, including trains. According to Rail Serve, a surge in the use of railroads for cargo transportation in the early 2000s has led to increased demand for trained railway employees. There is a variety of railway engineering programs available for this training.
  1. Dakota County Technical College Railroad Conductor Technology Program

    • Dakota County Technical College's Railroad Conductor Technology Program is a certificate program that trains students to become conductors. With increases in railroad usage and the rate of retirement for current conductors, Dakota County has formed partnerships with Union Pacific Railroad, Canadian Pacific Railway and other short line and regional railways to help meet demand. This 16 credit, seven-week, full-time certificate program is conducted at Dakota County's Rosemount, Minnesota campus. Interested applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED. They must also submit to a criminal background check with no felonies. In addition, students must pass a medical exam including a color-blindness test, an auditory and visual acuity test, a fitness test and a drug test.
