Art Direction Programs

Art direction programs are designed to teach students the essential components of art "idea-making" and leadership. These art school diploma programs provide a rich curriculum based upon strategic thinking and storytelling. An art direction program will also give students an introduction to media components. Art directors are hired by ad agencies or other creative firms that specialize in advertising or media relations.
  1. The Creative Circus

    • The Creative Circus is an accredited college that offers a diploma program in art direction. Students attend courses at the school's Atlanta, Georgia campus. Some subjects explored in the program include copywriting, typography and color theory. Prospective students must demonstrate creative skills prior to entering the school and provide a portfolio or writing samples. In addition, admission requirements include an essay and official transcripts. The school does not offer campus housing. Students who qualify can apply for federal financial aid and grants.

    Miami Ad School

    • Miami Ad School offers a two-year diploma program in art direction. Students engage in courses that teach the basics of art concepts and creative thinking. Courses focus on subjects such as portfolio development, digital imaging, video storytelling and idea presentation. Admission requirements include writing samples, letters of recommendation, transcripts and creative samples. Campus housing is not available. If eligible, students can receive scholarships, private and federal student loans.

    Portfolio Center

    • Portfolio Center was founded in 1977 and is located in Atlanta, Georgia. The school provides an eight-quarter program in art direction. Coursework includes subject matter such as brand communications, interactive media, photography, writing and design aesthetics. Students learn to lead design groups and to understand the creative process. Scholarships and federal funding are both offered for students who demonstrate financial need.
