Oklahoma Court Reporting Schools

The employment opportunities for court reporters are expected to increase by 18 percent by 2018, especially reporters who can work in real-time settings. In addition, reporters have the opportunity to use their skills outside of the courtroom, working in captioning or translating. Receiving the proper training is a key part of the career path, and residents of Oklahoma have a variety of options they may choose from when deciding which school is best for their needs.
  1. Oklahoma College of Court Reporting

    • Students at the Oklahoma College of Court Reporting benefit from an extensive course offering that provides training in a variety of fields. Studies include the theories of court reporting, speedbuilding, two-voice testimony, one-voice straight manual and three- and four-voice material. Legal terminology and court proceedings are also a part of the training. Students may attend full-time, in either day or evening classes.

      Tuition costs vary depending on the day or evening course option and begin at approximately $10,000. The school allows students to pay for their education in equal monthly payments.

    Rose State College

    • The court reporting program offered by Rose State College offers students the opportunity to observe real-world court reporting experiences and intern with court reporters. Students take courses in court reporting, captioning, computer aided transcription, real-time court reporting and a number of classes designed to build speed.

      As of 2010, tuition for Oklahoma residents is $65 per credit hour; non-resident tuition is $227 per credit hour. Financial aid options are available.

    Tulsa Technology Center

    • Tulsa Technology Center offers students the opportunity to choose between the actual court reporting path or a career as a scopist, proofreading and editing court transcripts. Students receive training first in the fundamentals of technology in order to learn the equipment necessary to pursue their career. Upon completion of the course, classes are available in court reporting theory, beginning to advanced speedbuilding, legal and medical terminology, real-time applications and court reporting capstone.

      As of 2010, tuition at Tulsa Technology Center is $4 per classroom hour. The court reporting program requires 1,020 hours to complete, meaning students can expect total costs of approximately $4,100; while the 660-hour scopist program costs approximately $2,700. Financial aid and scholarships are available.
