The Court Reporting Institute allows students to complete their degree either online or at the Houston or Dallas campus. Program modules include: machine shorthand; law and legal terminology; reporting procedures and principles of speech. The program lasts 120 weeks and consists of 108 quarter credit hours.
The Virginia Career Institute offers a court reporting program that teaches journalism theory background and shorthand. Students learn to write shorthand at up to 255 words per minute. Course programs can be completed in eight months. Financial aid is available for students who qualify.
South East College's court reporting program teaches students high speed data entry and transcribing. Students have access to a careers service team. Campus facilities include: a mock courtroom, medical transcription laboratories, an auditorium and bookstore. South East College is located in Orange, approximately 30 miles south of Los Angeles.
A court reporting degree can also be obtained at the Sacramento or Los Angeles campus of Bryan College. Students take national certificate exams, including the registered professional reporter exam. An internship and work experience in a courtroom are part of the course program.

Brown College of Court Reporting and Medical Transcription allows students to choose a type of court reporting to study. In stenography, a stenography machine is used to record court proceedings. Reporters using voice-writing speak into a microphone and their words are recorded into computer software and translated into text. Students at Brown learn shorthand with speeds up to 225 per minute at 95 per cent accuracy. The college is located in Atlanta, Ga.
At Miami-Dade College, students studying for a court reporting associate's in science degree learn about: testimony and jury-charge materials alongside real-time translation. Modules include: keyboarding applications; machine shorthand; court procedures and law terms; business English; and medical terminology.
