Major League Umpire Schools

A major league umpire is someone who officiates Major League Baseball games. Umpires enforce rules, make judgment calls on plays, approve timeouts, and discipline players and coaches when necessary, sometimes by ejecting them from the game. Professional umpires attend umpire schools and camps for training. It usually takes seven to 10 years of work in the minor leagues before an umpire is promoted to one of the two major leagues, the American League or the National League.
