Dental Asistant Schools Nearest to Danbury, CT

The Connecticut Department of Labor predicts that the demand for dental assistants in northwestern Connecticut, of which Danbury is a part of for the sake of statistics, will increase by more than 22 percent from 2006 through 2016. A small number of schools located within an hour of Danbury offer training programs in dental assisting. Some of these schools also carry the accreditation of the American Dental Association, allowing graduates to qualify for national certification as a dental assistant.

    • Established in 1994, Valley Medical Institute is a private, allied health training school in Trumbull, approximately 26 miles from Danbury (about 47 minutes by automobile). The school offers a dental assistant training program that requires 95 hours of training to complete. Students can take the required courses with four weeks of daytime or evening study or by taking classes just on Saturdays for 12 weeks. The school will admit students without a high school diploma or GED, provided they can pass a written entry examination. All students complete a clinical internship in a local dental office or clinic prior to graduation. The program covers radiography, qualifying students to take the state licensing exam necessary to administer dental X-rays. The school also offers a refresher program for dental assistants already working in the field and a radiography program for working dental assistants who need to obtain a license to perform X-rays.     • A private institution, Lincoln College of New England has three campuses in Connecticut, including its Southington campus, which is around 43 miles from Danbury (approximately 46 minutes by automobile). The college offers a chair-side dental assistant certificate program that carries the accreditation of the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. The program requires one year of full-time study and includes coursework in ethics, problem-solving, radiography and infection control. A high school diploma or GED is necessary to enroll. The college participates in federal and state grant and loan, private lending and veteran's benefit financial aid programs. The college provides job placement assistances for all students.

    • Located in Brookfield, Med-Care Training is approximately 5 miles from Danbury (around 11 minutes away by automobile) and is the closest dental assistant program to the town. The program requires 60 hours of training to complete. Classes meet three evenings per week for around seven weeks. The program includes courses in anatomy, dental liners and cements, instrumentation, making oral plaster impressions, orthodontics, periodontics, bleaching, whitening and radiography. Students do not need a high school diploma or GED to enroll. No placement test is administered. The school does not offer any type of financial aid. Major credit cards are accepted to cover tuition.
