Top-Ranked Dental Schools

Students who wish to study dentistry have a number of reputable programs to choose from. Harvard, the University of Connecticut, and the University of Pennsylvania offer three of the most celebrated and prestigious dental programs in the country. Students enrolled in these programs can work toward a D.M.D. or Ph.D. degree.
  1. Harvard School of Dental Medicine

    • One of the most reputable dentistry programs is the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Established in 1867, the program has an average enrollment of 300 students. The program offers a number of specialty training programs, including programs in orthodontics, prosthodontics, periodontics, endodontics, and advanced education in general dentistry. Students may also enroll in hospital-based programs, including pediatric dentistry at the Boston Children's Hospital and oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Students may work toward a D.M.D. or Ph.D. The school has an application deadline of January first.

    University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine

    • The University of Connecticut also offers a competitive dental program. Established in 1968, this program was ranked number one by the National Board of Dental Examiners in 2001. The University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine offers a master's in dental science or a doctorate of dental medicine. The program offers courses in oral health and diagnostic sciences, reconstructive sciences, and craniofacial sciences. The program is accredited by the American Dental Association. The application deadline for the program is February first; however, students are encouraged to apply early.

    University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine

    • The University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine also offers a competitive and reputable dental program. Established in 1878, this private program has approximately one hundred and thirty students enrolled each year. The program is a designated World Health Organization Collaborating Center and is the only program in the world devoted to oral infectious diseases. The school has an application deadline of January fifteenth, though because of the competitive nature of the programs, candidates are strong encouraged to apply early.
