Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry (OSHU) is the only school in Oregon certified to train dentists. OHSU, located in Portland, offers not only the basic degree of Doctor of Dental Medicine, but also advanced specialties in endodontics, orthodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, pediatric dentistry and periodontology.
Lane Community College, located in Eugene, offers a one-year certificate of completion program for dental assisting, dental restoration and dental restoration assisting. Of the community colleges that offer more than one certification, Lane has the oldest program in restorative assisting. The programs prepare the student for clinical chairside assisting along with tools for being a dental office manager and laboratory technician. Lane also offers a two-year Associate of Applied Science degree program as a dental hygienist. This program prepares students to become a licensed dental hygienist. This preparation includes training in all aspects of oral disease and health.
Pacific University's Dental Hygiene Program, part of the School of Dental Health Science located at the Hillsboro campus, leads to a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene. Pacific is the school for students who desire more than a basic certificate or associate degree and desire other career options available with a bachelor's degree, such as teaching, public health administration, managing healthcare facilities and marketing healthcare products.
The Oregon School of Dental Sciences offers an online degree with the Oregon Institute of Technology. A Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene requires completion of an 18-month associate's degree at the school.
