How to Register for a Nursing School Entrance Exam

As our society ages, the need for skilled medical personnel should continue to increase. This is great news for those interested in the field of nursing. However, many nursing schools require passage of an entrance exam prior to enrollment. The industry standards are the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) and the Nurse Entrance Test (NET). Both of these nationally recognized exams will cover topics such as math, English and comprehension. The specific test required and registration process will vary somewhat from school to school. However, there are some common steps that will help ensure a smooth entrance exam process.

Instructions

    • 1

Learn which entrance exam is required by your school of interest. Search the school's website or contact the admissions department directly.

    • 2

Select an appropriate day and time to sit for the exam. If possible, choose a date prior to your chosen school's registration period. Although exams are offered at various times throughout the year, they are typically available only once or twice per month. Call the school's admissions department to schedule a testing date.

    • 3

Follow the individual school's registration instructions, which may include online registration with the TEAS or NET test administrator. Since many of the exams are completed using computer-based systems, a user name and password may be required to access the test. This is obtained during the online registration process. The exams are usually administered at an independent testing facility.
