Research nursing schools to find one that best meets your needs. Consider the cost, length of the program and location. You will also need to determine whether the school is just a nursing school or part of a college or university. In either case, you will likely have to complete additional coursework before registration.
Complete prerequisite coursework as required by whichever nursing program you plan to register for. If you plan on applying to a nursing school connected to a college or university, you will have to be admitted to the college before being admitted to the nursing program and allowed to register for classes. Most nursing programs require coursework in microbiology, organic chemistry, chemistry, psychology, communications and physiology and anatomy. Complete this coursework and all general education courses while maintaining the minimum GPA required by the nursing school.
Apply to the nursing school once you have completed all of the necessary requirements. There is normally a second application required to do this. You may not get accepted to the nursing school; admission to the college or university does not automatically qualify you for the nursing program. Instead, most schools admit students on a competitive basis.
Pass any required nursing admission exams and interviews with the nursing school. Some schools require one or both of these prior to allowing you to register for classes. The National League for Nurses provides an exam that many nursing schools use to screen applicants.
Examine the nursing school's curriculum requirements and check the upcoming course schedule for the following semester. Choose courses that you are required to take and that meet your schedule. You may be able to register for these courses by going online and completing registration through your school's online registration system. A username and password are usually required for registration.
