Veterinary Technician Programs in Florida

Veterinary technicians provide a long list of services and aid to a veterinarian. They serve, in part, like the veterinarian's nurse. This helps them put together a solid team of individuals who can help maintain a high standard of care. Becoming a technician is a job option for people who are considering a career in veterinary medicine and would eventually like to become a professional veterinarian or perhaps become a technician for a researcher.
  1. Brevard Community College

    • Brevard Community College is in East-Central Florida, with campuses in Cocoa, Melbourne, Palm Bay and Titusville. BCC offers a two-year veterinary certification program at all of its locations. This program is based around streamlining the education process into the general education courses the student will need. Along with that, students will undergo supervised clinical training and practice at the colleges on site facility as well as being placed in external facilities. While general education classes can be completed before admission to the program, the program is designed to build upon itself from semester to semester; an emphasis is placed on physically attending class because of the hands-on nature of the subject matter.

The program is made up of relevant coursework, such as animal-specific courses in anatomy and physiology, nursing and clinical pathology. Completion of this program doesn't guarantee certification, as graduates will still need to sit for the national exam and certification.
