Columbus, Ohio Real Estate Schools

The Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing is the branch of the Ohio Department of Commerce responsible for the licensing and regulation of real estate activities in the state. Licenses are issued for appraisers, salespersons and brokers who are state-tested upon completion of a pre-licensure education requirement. Continuing education is an ongoing requirement for license renewal.
  1. Columbus State Community College

    • The 80-acre, 23,000-student Columbus State Community College was established in 1963 and is centrally located in downtown Columbus. The Real Estate Technology department at the college offers three courses of study: a three-class registered real estate appraiser assistant program, the four-class salesperson pre-licensure curriculum and a two-year associate's degree in real estate. The college has 12 different scholarships available in its Real Estate Technology department.

    Hondros College

    • According to its website, the Hondros College network of education providers has educated over 80 percent of Ohio's licensed real estate agents. The Columbus-metro branch of Hondros College is located 15 miles from the Columbus city center in suburban Westerville. The appraisal or real estate salesperson pre-licensure courses can be completed in just three weeks. The four required broker licensure courses can be taken in class over four months or as a self-paced program online. Post-licensing and continuing education classes are offered for real estate salespersons, brokers and appraisers.

    Ohio State University

    • The Fisher College of Business at Ohio State University is home to the Center for Real Estate Education and Research. The center is more than 50 years old and was selected as the 5th ranked real estate program in the nation by U.S. News & World Report in 2010. The business school offers both a bachelor's and a master's degree in real estate and urban analysis is also available. Upon course completion, students are qualified to manage real estate investment trusts (REITs). Graduates of either program are eligible to sit for the state salesperson's exam as well as the broker's exam once salesperson licensure is obtained and the required broker sales criteria are met.
