The premier institution of military engineering in India is the College of Military Engineering in Pune. The CME in Pune is the training institution for India's Corps of Engineers and the Indian Army. It was first established in the northern town of Roorkee and move to its present location in Pune in 1948. The target group for CME are Corps of Engineers personnel as well as members of the navy, air force, paramilitary forces and police. The college offers three-year bachelor of technology (B.Tech) degrees in civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and communication engineering.

When the Indian army corps of engineers wanted to build and develop its expertise in telecommunications, it created the MCTE, which is located in Mhow in Madhya Pradesh. The term Mhow itself is an acronym for the "Military Headquarters of Western India." Officers taking the courses in this college are awarded a B.Tech degree in telecommunication engineering.

India's army has a Corps of Electrical & Mechanical Engineers [EME], who are charged with "maintaining the operational fitness of electrical, mechanical, electronic and optical equipment of the Army." The Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME) was established in 1952 in Secunderabad near the city of Hyderabad to train these engineers. As the name implies, the college awards B.Tech degrees in both mechanical and electronic engineering.
