BITS, Pilani has been producing engineers for a 100 years. It was founded by the late Mr. G.D. Birla, a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi. In almost every ranking of engineering colleges, especially private ones, BITS Pilani shows up near the top of the list. For the academic year 2008-09, it had an annual capacity of 837 students each year.

PSG Tech, in south India was founded in 1951 and has been awarding engineering degrees to candidates ever since. It was the first private engineering college established in the state of Tamil Nadu. Each year, 1,000 students are admitted to the college to major in one of 18 departments.

BIT Mesra, located near Ranchi has been producing engineers since 1955. It has since expanded in the country and has seven extension centers in the country. Each center has a fixed number of seats for aspiring candidates. BIT offers a total of seven streams of engineering degrees, and admission depends on performance in the 12th grade school leaving certificate and on the All-India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE) score.
