Top Chemical Engineering Colleges in India

According to the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) chemical engineers "have been part of almost every major development from plastics and fibers to unleaded gasoline to nuclear and even solar power." As the demand for chemical engineers grows, an increasing number of Indian engineering colleges are offering degrees in this discipline. As of 2010, the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers lists 165 colleges or institutes offering degrees in chemical engineering. Among these, some notable Indian engineering colleges have earned the reputation for having excellent chemical engineering departments.
  1. Indian Institutes of Technology

    • The Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) are widely considered to be the No. 1-ranked engineering institutes in India. Five IITs were established in the 1950s, and the number had grown to 15 by 2010. All the IITs offer undergraduate degrees in chemical engineering, and these are among the top-rated in the country. In addition, the original five IIT's (Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kanpur and Kharagpur) offer master's degrees in chemical engineering.
