North Carolina Tech Colleges

North Carolina has an extensive system of technical colleges. These provide students with specialized training in a marketable vocational skill. Graduates of North Carolina tech colleges will be prepared for entry-level employment in their trade. Further, many technical colleges in North Carolina are publicly-funded, so they are able to keep tuition low for in-state students.
  1. Wake Technical Community College

    • Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh offers students vocational and technical training in four different fields. The Applied Technologies Division includes traditional blue-collar trades such as welding, plumbing, mechanical drafting, heavy equipment and electronics. The Health Sciences Division allows students to major in a number of allied health services fields such as surgical technology, nursing, medical assisting and dental assisting. The Computer and Engineering Technology Division provides training in database management, programming, interior design, surveying and architecture. Students in the Business Technologies Division have the option of studying culinary arts, accounting and early childhood education.

    Guilford Technical Community College

    • Guilford Technical Community College is located in Jamestown. The college hosts five different sections relevant to students seeking technical education. The construction technology segment has programs in carpentry, plumbing and electronics. The engineering technologies portion of Guilford Tech allows students to learn surveying, architecture and civil, mechanical and electronic engineering. The industrial technology wing offers courses in machining, manufacturing, upholstering and welding. Public service technologies programs include teaching, fire protection, cosmetology and early childhood education. Finally, the transportation systems technology department hosts majors in auto body repair, aviation technology and automotive systems.

    Fayetteville Technical Community College

    • Fayetteville Technical Community College provides career technical training through its Engineering, Public Service, and Applied Technology Programs. This portion of FTCC is broken down into four sections. Engineering Technologies includes majors in surveying and architectural technology. Building Trades Technologies offers education in carpentry, plumbing and horticulture. Public Service offerings include cosmetology, funeral service and early childhood education. The Industrial and Transportation Technology section includes machine tooling, welding, auto body repair and automotive systems technology.

    Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute

    • Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute in Hudson offers North Carolina students a chance to learn a trade. Associate degree programs include medical sonography, landscape gardening, nuclear medicine technology and nursing. Students may pursue professional diplomas in the fields of auto body repair, automotive systems technology, Certificate programs include five different areas of landscape gardening, manicures, two information technology majors, truck driving and surveying.
