Colleges in Florida for Becoming a Realtor

Realtors work with clients selling homes to find the best deal for their property. Realtors also work to find ideal properties for home buyers within their ideal neighborhood and price range. Realtors are required to undergo professional training and apply for licensure. The average salary for realtors is $40,150 per year and the U.S. Department of Labor states this profession is expected to grow by 14 percent by 2018. Florida houses several institutions accredited to teach students the necessary skills to become a realtor.
  1. University of Florida Center for Real Estate Studies

    • The University of Florida Center for Real Estate Studies offers a Real Estate Pre-Licensing Course developed to prepare students for the state examination and a career as a real estate professional. This course is delivered online and includes video lectures by professional realtors, textbooks and PowerPoint slides to highlight main learning points. Coursework is broken down into 20 sessions so students do not have to memorize a plethora of information at one time. Video lectures are performed live by the instructor and all materials used during the lecture are available for download immediately following class. Daily lectures are also available as to download so students can review them on their own time. After completing this course, students have satisfied the minimum training hour requirements for Florida and can take the Florida Sales Associate Licensing Examination. As of 2010, this program costs a total of $295; however, this does not include licensing application fees or examination fees.

    Florida Coast Career Tech

    • Florida Coast Career Tech has four campuses surrounding the Jacksonville, Florida area; however, the Kent Campus offers a real estate sales agent program. This program has been developed to prepare students for state examination. To graduate, students must complete a total of 63 contact hours, which satisfies the minimum training hours established by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Coursework within this program includes state license law, ethics, state and federal housing laws as well as real estate brokerage operations. To apply for this program, students must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, and must take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) test. As of 2010, the real estate sales agent program costs $72 per credit hour for in-state resides or $284 for non-Florida residents.

    Bob Hogue School of Real Estate

    • The Bob Hogue School of Real Estate is located in St. Petersburg, Florida and offers an online Florida real estate sales associate pre-licensing course. This course consists of 63-hours worth of curriculum, and upon completion students are eligible to take the state licensing examination. Coursework within this program include real estate business, legal descriptions, real estate contracts, finance, mortgage industry, real estate taxing and planning/zoning laws. After completing all coursework, students must pass a three-hour times examination, which consists of 100 questions. Upon passing this examination, students will receive a certificate and can take the state licensing examination. As of 2010, this program costs a total of $245.
