How to Test for a CNA License in the State of Kentucky

A certified nursing assistant (CNA) in the state of Kentucky is a noble profession. In order to test as a CNA in Kentucky, there are several steps you must take. As a CNA you will have duties that range from direct patient care to clerical tasks, so you must be diversified in your education and be able to multi-task. Starting pay in Kentucky is about $21,000 a year.

      Register for a CNA class with a local technical school. In order to take the CNA test in the state of Kentucky, you must complete an approved CNA course. The course must be a minimum of 75 hours of coursework and 120 hours of clinical rotation. Classes are typically two to six months in length.

      Complete the prerequisites. In order to take the test you must have a current background check, two fingerprint cards, photo ID, two passport sized photos, a negative TB test within the last six months and proof of immunizations.

      Navigate to the Kentucky Board of Nursing website (see Resources) and complete the examination application. There is a $110 application fee as part of the process which can be paid online.

      Take the test. The first part of the test is multiple choice, 75 questions long and you will be required to answer 52 of them right to pass with 70 percent. The second part of the test is a hands-on demonstration where you will be required to pass five skills that you are asked to demonstrate that you would have learned through your course and internship.

      Submit your out-of-state "Certified List of Graduates from Out of State Programs of Nursing" automatically through your school or your transcripts from out of state to take the Kentucky state test.
