How to Sign Up for the PSAT

The PSAT is a type of practice test that you can take prior to taking the SAT, or Scholastic Aptitude Test. Some colleges recommend that you take the PSAT before applying. This isn't a test that you can just show up and take whenever you feel like it; you must first register for an exam date using the official PSAT website registration service.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your Web browser and go to the PSAT high school search page.

    • 2

Type in your school's numeric identification code -- you can get this from your guidance counselor -- or type in your school's name and address. Click "Search."

    • 3

Click your school's name in the Search results. This will load a PSAT registration page that is unique to your school. Select the date on screen from the list of options for when you would like to take the test. Click "Register" to begin the registration process. You will have to provide your name, address, and credit or debit card number to pay the registration fees, which vary based on the school.
