College Programs for Talented & Gifted Students

Many top ranked universities and colleges host academic, residential summer programs for gifted and talented students. These programs bring together motivated students and create a supportive environment for students' academic pursuits. Students also get a taste of college life, and have the opportunity to learn more about a particular school. These summer programs usually require an application, and often have minimum GPA or standardized test score requirements for admission.
  1. Duke University Talent Identification Program

    • The Duke University Talent Identification Program, commonly referred to simply as TIP, offers a variety of summer programs for gifted students in middle school and high school. The Duke TIP Talent Search identifies students who have performed well on standardized tests, particularly the SAT or ACT, and invites those students to apply to its summer programs. TIP's summer programs include three-week summer studies sessions held at Appalachian State University, Davidson College, Duke University, Texas A&M University, Trinity University, the University of Georgia, the University of Kansas and the Duke University Marine Lab. Students can choose from a variety of courses in the humanities and sciences. TIP also holds field studies programs and other programs in Belize, India and other locations.

    The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth

    • The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth, commonly referred to as CTY, offers a variety of summer academic programs for gifted students. Like Duke University's TIP program, CTY conducts a talent search for students who have performed well on standardized tests. CTY offers day camps for elementary school students and residential programs for middle and high school students. Students can choose from a wide variety of courses in the humanities and sciences. CTY also offers language immersion programs and international programs in Mexico and Hong Kong.

    Summer Institute for the Gifted

    • The Summer Institute for the Gifted, commonly abbreviated as SIG, offers summer residential academic programs at a variety of top ranked colleges and universities, including Amherst College, Bryn Mawr College, Dartmouth College, Emory University Princeton University, The University of California at Berkeley and more. Students in grades 4 through 11 are eligible to attend the residential programs, and elementary and middle school students can attend the institute's day programs.
