The United States Department of Agriculture provides scholarships for students of agriculture, food, or natural resource sciences who attend or plan to attend one of seventeen 1890 Historically Black Land-Grant Institutions under the auspices of the USDA/1890 National Scholars Program. The scholarship covers more than a dozen fields of study within the general areas listed above, and is available to graduating high school seniors through college juniors. Students at non-approved colleges or universities are eligible with proof of intent to transfer to an approved institution.

Monsanto is an agricultural company that provides scholarships to students in related fields to promote the future of farming in the United States. The company doles out a number of scholarships annually. The Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship requires program applicants to be high school seniors from farm families with strong academic records and intention to study agriculture or a related field at an accredited university. Two other scholarships are available through Monsanto.

The National Future Farmers of American Organization awards roughly $2 million in scholarships annually. The National FFA Organization metes out over 1000 scholarships each year, all of which use a single application form. The majority of the scholarships are limited to FFA members, though for students reluctant to join the organization, the Cargill, DEKALB, Land O'Lakes Purina Feed, Monsanto, National Mastitis Council and Rose Acre Farms scholarships are awarded to non-members.
