Licensed Practical Nurses or Licensed Vocational Nurses have many choices in advancing their eduction. With so many schools available online and offline, they can continue on their educational path while working. There are many distance learning schools, but for working nurses, the key is timeliness and convenience. Online schools that provide a fast-track option are beneficial because working nurses can continue on to advanced degrees in a short amount of time.

    • UP offers LPNs and LVNs to complete their degrees while working. They will develop advanced clinical and critical thinking skills. Students practice their developed skills in real world settings and simulated labs. LVNs and LPNs will be eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN Examination).

    Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College

    • LPNs who want to complete their education In 12 months can take advantage of the nursing program offered at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College. Nurses will complete an Associate of Science degree in Nursing in a compressed format. It allows them to incur advanced credit while maintaining their employment. It includes 36 hours of general education and technical support courses, a summer course and 12 months of nursing courses that start in July of every year. The school anticipates adding an online program to its curriculum.

    Indiana State University

    • Indiana State offers a distance learning option to its students. LPNs can complete their bachelor of science degree via online through a joint partnership with Indiana State and Ivy Tech. Clinicals are arranged with the LPN's local clinic or hospital. Upon completion of their coursework, they are eligible to sit in for the NCLEX-RN exam which is the national board exam required for registered nurses.
